Even though TiVo is very easy to access and easy to use, it has had a very hard time getting into the consumer markets. The DVR player to be used with cable TV or Satellite TV was the first to come out, faster than any other company. In spite of that TiVo only has a 40 percent market share in the DVR players. It has been researched and when TiVo first came out people were skeptical about the process so many people have stayed with their VCR recorders.
Another reason why TiVo was not extremely popular these days is because of the cost of the monthly and or lifetime subscription fees. The market shares of TiVo has dropped because other companies are offering DVR with only a low month rate and you don’t need a subscription and for any reason you don’t want the box anymore, then you can return it without a penalty fee.
Who really knows what the future holds but TiVo and Comcast have just signed a deal in 2005 to combine the two, though the investors are concerned about the future of TiVo, they are hopeful that with the integration of the two entities that TiVo can revitalize itself. We can only wait and see. TiVo has some competition with its cable and satellite providers offering their customers something they have but at a cheaper price. We can only watch and wait.
