Direct TV offers TiVo but some people are skeptical, there are advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that the video stream is delivered as a compressed digital flow by Direct TV. DIRECTiVo records directly into the compressed digital onto the hard drive. What this means is that the quality is perfect, you never lose the quality of the picture. You only need one box instead of two, you only need one remote. The best part is you only get one bill.

It has dual tuners, it can decode two programs, and the processing power has RAM and a hard drive performance to record two programs on two different channels at the same time. Some of the disadvantages are that it only has one box. If the TiVo box fails then you cannot use the TV because you have only one box. You don’t have many choices in the DVR players. Direct TV is the only company to integrate with TiVo. If you want to get Replay TV or Myth TV or another DVR service then you have to use the regular analog cable methods.

There is no analog input jack, the TiVo units that do record only play back DIRECTV programming. If the customer does not want the box anymore then discontinues the DIRECTV programming service, the function of the box is useless. Some people prefer the TiVo alone rather than incorporated with DIRECTV, there are fewer problems and you can use another cable service or TV provider if you get TiVo alone.
